When is Stand in the Gap 2007?
Saturday, October 6, 2007, 11:00 A.M.to 5:00 P.M. (EST)

Where is Stand in the Gap 2007 taking place?
"America's Front Lawn" - the grounds of the Washington Monument and the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., our Nation's Capital.

What is Stand in the Gap?
A national, outdoor sacred gathering of men occurring in the seventh year of every decade.

What is the mission of Stand in the Gap 2007?
To strengthen the mission of the local church by strengthening men.

What is the scriptural framework for this gathering (Stand In The Gap 2007)?

“One generation will commend your works to another;
they will tell of your mighty acts.”  Psalm 145:4.

What are the distinctives ?
1. The appeal to generations of men to come together, regardless of age, race, or denomination.
2. The "once-every-decade" nature of the event.
3. A program format reflecting the (re)telling of God’s Great Story.
4. The establishment of "The Foundation for Biblical Manhood" as the trusteeship to perpetuate the vision of the gathering after the event is completed.
5.
The challenge of a grassroots-funded event.

Why do it?
A massive gathering in a dedicated, masculine, larger-than-life, challenging, inter-generational environment will give men the unforgettable experience of coming face-to-face with God and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their brothers in Christ.

Equally important is addressing (1) the full scale assault on the masculine identity in western culture (2) the decline of the positive moral and spiritual influence of biblically faithful men and (3) the crying need for spiritual fathers in our homes, churches and communities. Each of these factors fuel the goal of creating and sustaining a legacy event to enliven and impact the present and future generations of men.

Why once every decade?
Decades mark the passing of time in a memorable way. We mark time and culture by decades. Remember the 60’s? the 80’s? Also, the passing of ten years allows men to create a generational legacy by returning again and again to this event with their sons, fathers, and grandfathers and other special men in their lives.

Two examples of decadal events provide an understanding of the impact of an event which occurs every ten years.

(1) The Passion Play of Oberammergau, Germany:
“A play of life and death, promised in a moment of mortal threat - so began the history of the Oberammergau passion play in 1633. In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the Oberammergauers swore an oath that they would perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. At Pentecost 1634, they fulfilled their pledge for the first time on a stage they put up in the cemetery above the fresh graves of the plague victims. In the year 2000, the Community of Oberammergau performed the passion play they have preserved throughout the centuries with singular continuity for the 40th time.” (Quote from the official Oberammergau web site)

(2) The U.S. Census:
Since 1790, the United States Government has carried out a counting of its people and measured social and economic factors of its national life. Originally designed to provide a basis for a "one man - one vote" rule for political representation, the census quickly became a way to gather much additional information about the country which could be used to inform policy for the government. These data also helped business make informed decisions on development and growth.

Stand in the Gap is an opportunity to give men the chance to “be counted” in a way that is unique and compelling. When asked by their children and grandchildren, “Were You There?” they will be able to say “Yes” (Joshua 4). Additionally, the momentum gained from the men who attend will help determine the scope and shape of ministry to men in years in the years 2008-2017.

Note: The taking of a census (show up and be counted) also played a pivotal role in the birth narrative of Jesus Christ by fulfilling prophecy.

Why 2007? Why the seventh year?
An historic gathering of men was held in Washington, DC in 1997, thus establishing the beginning of a memorable pattern of meeting in the seventh year of each decade.

How many men are expected to attend?
Men from everywhere are invited to attend and participate – all men by all means. The vision and scope of the event calls for numbers in the hundreds of thousands, although the exact number is unknowable at this time. The final count is at the pleasure of God.

Is this event sponsored by Promise Keepers?
PK has led the way in dynamic events for men for many years, in particular, their  vision for
'Stand in the Gap-A Sacred Assembly in 1997."  We are grateful for their faith and inspiration, but because they are redesigning their outreach to men, they are not sponsoring Stand in the Gap 2007.

Who will be on the platform?
Communicators and leaders who have the heart of Nehemiah. The final program details are under development.  They will be released when completed. See the Program page.
